SWiS - Social Workers in Schools

Social Workers in Schools (SWiS) is a service that places a Barnardos social worker in a school community. Whether your children need help with school, at home, or with things like health services, our Social Workers in Schools are trained professionals who will work in partnership with you, your child and their school. SWiS have three main roles:

1. To work with children and their families/whānau

2. provide group programmes that help children and families to succeed

3. Help families to access community support networks

Some of the things we can work on with you and your child might include:

  • social skills and self-esteem for children
  • family relationships
  • children's peer relationships
  • behavioural concerns
  • parenting support
  • family violence
  • advocacy
  • referrals to other services
