Become a foster carer

Every child needs someone to love and care for them and that’s exactly what families provide through our Auckland foster care service.
As a foster carer, you’ll provide a loving and nurturing home for children and young people who can’t live with their own families. You’ll also support them to stay in contact with their birth family. Some are in foster care for a short time while their families work through any issues, while others need a permanent home.
We recruit, assess and train carers so they develop the skills and confidence to care for a child or young person. We then work closely with Child Youth and Family to match and place children and young people with appropriate carers. Our service has been running since 1991 and we have developed an excellent reputation for finding carers for children and young people who have experienced trauma and difficulties in their lives and who can be challenging to care for.
We offer substantial training and support to carers both before, during and after placement, and we have an extremely low number of placement breakdowns. We welcome applications from people with varying backgrounds who would like to be foster carers and we recognise the outstanding contribution foster carers can make to achieving good outcomes for children and young people we work with.
Our foster carers say it’s the little things – a smile, a few words or simply seeing the joy in a child’s eyes – that are the true rewards of fostering.
