Foster Care
Barnardos can provide foster families and respite care for children when their own families are coping with crisis. The careful recruitment of foster families and a high level of support ensure that the children benefit as much as possible form their time in foster care.
Barnardos caters for both Child, Youth and Family and community or self referrals. In Wellington the service also finds new permanent families for some children referred by Child, Youth and Family. In these cases Barnardos support staff will continue to work with the new families until the children are independent adults, as well as help birth families maintain contact.
