Child Advocates
Barnardos hosts 11 child advocates as part of the Child Advocate initiative of the Ministry of Social Development.
The advocates work with community organisations, who themselves are working directly with children and young people affected by family violence.
The advocates provide independent advice and support, to help ensure that these children and young people are not exposed to further family violence, and to help limit the associated negative impacts.
The advocates also help raise community awareness and understanding about how family violence affects children and young people.
