Becoming a Barnardos Foster Parent

Barnardos provides short term care for children and young people in need of care and protection, or when their own families are coping with crisis. The careful recruitment of foster families and a high level of support ensure that the children benefit as much as possible from their time in foster care. Care is provided in the foster parent’s home under contract to Child, Youth and Family. We are looking for foster families who can provide a safe, caring and stable environment for these children and young people. Could you be this person?

How does fostering work?

We recruit families from the community who are able to provide a nurturing environment for children and young people. All prospective foster parents require police checks, medical checks and thorough reference checks. They will be assessed, approved and trained by Barnardos Social Workers before having children placed in their care. Foster families are paid a set allowance to cover expenses. Foster families and children are matched to ensure the placement is successful.

What support does Barnardos provide?

Barnardos Social Workers provide ongoing support and supervision for foster parents and the children in their care. They visit the families’ homes regularly, and provide the parents with ongoing training. To learn more about becoming a Barnardos foster parents please contact your local Barnardos Area Office
