Strategies with Kids, Information for Parents
S.K.I.P. (Strategies with Kids, Information for Parents) is a government initiative to positively change how children are raised in New Zealand. Its vision is to support parents and caregivers of children aged 0-5 and enable them to feel confident about managing their children's behaviour as part of a loving and nurturing relationship.
Since 2004, the SKIP (Strategies with Kids, Information for Parents) Team (in the Ministry of Social Development) have worked with Barnardos in a partnership to enable S.K.I.P to become embedded in all of the work that we do. By utilising the resources, education, local initiatives and staff training we are better able to assist parents and caregivers to gain an understanding of good parenting as well as supporting them to develop practical skills to confidently use positive discipline practices.
Barnardos has a vision that all children should be raised in a positive way enabling them to grow up to be caring people and quality parents, so this joint collaboration is a well-matched partnership with similar values and a similar vision being shared by both parties.
In Barnardos we have a S.K.I.P Learning and Development Coordinator who works both within Barnardos and also externally with other agencies and communities.

Testimonials
Childrens Contact Service
"If it hadn't been for the help of the Children's Contact Coordinator I'd have walked out. I've stayed with it, and now have a much better relationship with my kids."
