Shift Team Leader - 22 May 2013

Shift Team Leader, Christchurch 

Barnardos is one of New Zealand’s largest and most trusted organisations focused on children, young people and their families.

We are looking for a suitably qualified and/or experienced Shift Team Leader to fill a permanent, full-time vacancy that exists at Te Poutama Ārahi Rangatahi, a residential treatment facility based in Christchurch, which is managed by Barnardos. The facility is the only one of its kind in New Zealand, which accommodates males aged 12 – 16 years from across the country, who have engaged in harmful sexual behaviour. The facility operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing treatment, education and residential care for up to 12 residents at any one time.

Working in a residential treatment environment can be both challenging and rewarding. The role of a Shift Team Leader is to lead a team of Residential Youth Workers, providing group and individual care for youth within a residential treatment environment. Shift Team Leaders are required to work rostered shifts, with the remuneration package of between $52,000 and $57,000 being reflective of this.

To be successful you will need:
• A formal qualification in human services is not necessary however is highly desirable
• A current full driver’s licence
• Achievement in managing residential staff

Family Safety Team, Child Advocate - 15 May 2013

Family Safety Team, Child Advocate (Hamilton)
 

Barnardos is one of New Zealand’s largest and most trusted organisations focused on children, young people and their families.

We are currently looking for a Child Advocate for our Family Safety Team to provide specialist advocacy (in partnership with NZ Police) using an interagency approach for children and their family who are victims of family violence in the Hamilton area.

Your initiative, influencing skills and resilience will be called on in this challenging role coordinating referrals, providing education and training, raising community awareness and ensuring compliance with practice standards.

To be successful in this role you will need a thorough knowledge of family violence and key legislation in this area, including risks to families and the impact on victims.

You also require a full understanding of the family court, civil and criminal justice processes and outcomes for victims and those at high risk of family violence.

Experience advocating for children and young people, a relevant tertiary qualification and commitment to providing culturally appropriate services to Māori are a must. View job description here.

We are in need of and actively looking for Foster Carers, who live in the Greater Auckland Region to look after teenagers aged 13-17 years old who are unable to live with their family/ whānau for a number of different reasons.

To look after teenagers you need to be able to offer support, be understanding and have a realistic, sympathetic out look towards teenagers and their needs. We need dedicated people who will go that extra mile and try to help them through these challenging years.

If you feel you have a natural ability with young people, have experience with teenagers and have a home that could offer them their own room we would love to talk to you.
